Studying Abroad in Athens, Greece

It's honestly really hard to put into words how special Athens is. Considering I spent more than just a weekend here, I can't just write a few paragraphs and call it a day. So instead I am just going to talk about my overall abroad experience and how grateful I am to have been able to live in Athens for four months.

Ever since I was a little kid I always dreamed of going to Athens. Partly because of my unhealthy obsession with the Percy Jackson franchise, but also because I was so fascinated by the history and culture behind it all. There was always something in me that knew I was going to study abroad at some point, and that I would be in Athens.

When I first arrived at the Athens airport on September 6th, 2022 I was in shock. It was one of those things where even though I had talked and planned about moving to Greece for months, it didn't ACTUALLY hit me what was going on until I was physically there. It all felt like some sort of fantasy- until it wasn't.

The city of Athens is beautiful. It's filled with quaint shops, lively music, lots of restaurants, friendly locals, rooftop bars, and so much history. One of my favorite things was that you could see the Acropolis from anywhere- and that was a view that never got old.

However if you take away the culture, the history, the great food, Athens gave me so much more than that. It gave me an opportunity to meet so many new people who have came into my life, and opened the door for me for so many new opportunities and adventures. Coming from a girl who grew up dreaming of traveling the world with her best friends, this place made my dream a reality.
