Road Trip Through Norway
I've ALWAYS wanted to go to Norway. The funny thing is although it's been a place on my list for years, I had no actual idea on what I wanted to do when I got there. So when we booked a cheap flight to Oslo it left us all thinking: okay so what do we even do in Norway? Now obviously on a short 2 day weekend trip you can only fit in so much- leaving the obvious attractions like a 8 hour drive to Bergen or going to see the Northern Lights out. We ultimately decided whats a better way to see a place we really know nothing about than to rent a car and just drive.
After a wonderful night in Oslo at an extremely nice hotel (with breakfast included which was HUGE) we hit the road around 9:30 am. The only thing on the agenda was an airbnb we had booked in Eidfjord for that night.
The drive from Oslo to Eidfjord is supposed to be around 4.5-5 hours, but with the amount of times we stopped it probably took us around 7-8 hours. Some highlights were Honefoss (where we saw Alpacas) and Hallingskarvet National Park. The scenery was like nothing i've ever seen, when we were driving past the park it looked like we were on a completely different planet.
The entire time we were in awe. This was by far one of the prettiest drives ever, at every corner there was something different whether it was a lake, new mountain range, or even a heard of cows- we stopped probably every 10 minutes.
However, nothing prepared us for what we were about to see when we drove into Eidfjord.
The moment when we came out of the tunnel and had our first look at the Fjords is a moment I won't forget. We pulled over almost immediately just to take it all in. I don't really know how else to describe it other than saying that nothing has ever made me feel so small.
The town of Eidfjord itself was very quaint and small, but was not lacking in beauty. Perched down between two Fjords, the views were stunning. One of my favorite moments from this trip was waking up and doing a sunrise walk from our Airbnb. In this moment I was really able to take time for myself and slow down to take it all in.
On the drive back we visited Voringfossen Waterfall. All I can really say about this waterfall is WOW. We planned to spend around 20 minutes here, but we ended up spending close to 2 hours at the waterfall in the end.
Norway is one of those places where pictures just do not do it justice. 10/10 one of the most beautiful places in the world- I love Norway.
